Mama Will Provide
Well, it's not Mama, but Mama's neighbor. Close enough.
The severe financial trouble I've been in is going to abate a bit in the next month when the other doormen start going on vacation. The super will be off for two weeks (and the head doorman taking off work to fill in for him), then the night doorman, the evening doorman, and finally the head doorman taking a week off apiece. I can't work all of those shifts because I've still got my own awkwardly scheduled ones to work around, but that's still seventeen shifts for me and eight for Tim and/or Jaye. (Yeah, it really adds up that way.)
So I guess I'm all right again for a few more months. In theory I could do this forever, going from extra shifts in midsummer to bonuses at Christmas. Doesn't sound like an altogether appealing option, though.
Better--next week I'm going to visit Peggy at New Directions, and hopefully leave with an interview at W.W. Norton to look forward to.
