Afterthought
Oops. Forgot to say anything about the awards themselves, didn't I?
There wasn't much to say. I was happy that Jane Krakowski won over Chita Rivera and that Michele Pawk made it as well, but I wasn't terribly disgusted that Harvey Fierstein beat Antonio Banderas or that Brian Dennehy took it over Eddie Izzard. I would have been miffed if Hairspray (which I have serious problems with, but love several parts of) had lost to Movin' Out (which, for all its merits, was just not in the right category). But that didn't happen, nor did any of the MO cast somehow surge to a win over performers who will be on Broadway again.
If they'd been presented in some format that wasn't the worst in years (some very bad years), I'd have been very happy with these awards.
