How you know that Bill Maher is essentially a hack | Pandagon

He has his moments, but there's no mistaking it. Bill Maher is a hack. It's an inarguable conclusion--as soon as he named a TV show "Politically Incorrect", there was no redemption from the Annals of Hackery, even if foevermore he wrote nothing but incisive, original jokes.

Damn, beat me to the punch. I've been meaning to comment on this for probably a couple of years now.

Maher once defined political correctness as the elevation of sensitivity over truth. That is, I suppose, a bad thing. But what is today known as political incorrectness isn't the restoration of truth to a higher level of priority--it's the elevation of insensitivity over truth. Having observed that liberal attitudes occasionally result in absurd logical contortions, conservatives concluded--correctly--that they could defend the most transparently bigoted and ignorant positions simply by observing that they weren't P.C. Truth doesn't enter into it.

Exactly. Thank you for putting it better than I have been able to do during many discussions with many people over the years.

Zing! I'm totally saving the URL to this post because I KNOW your definition of political incorrectness is going to come in handy and you completely deserve credit for it. Bravo.
