Ah, yes, there was an advantage to the old days when you didn't have a blog and eighty e-mail addresses and a dozen profiles and and an IM account and a Twitter whatever-it's-called. It was that when someone was gone from your life, he was actually gone, not lingering nearby in the ether leaving little pieces of regretful residue that you unwittingly wipe up every time you refresh your browser.

Oh well. It's still a small price to pay to be instantly informed on the event of Abe Vigoda's death.
