Nobody Likes a Know-it-All

Today we had a seminar on a topic that's vitally important to our jobs but that doesn't generally call for formal training. At the end, my boss gave us an oral "pop quiz," and I answered just about all of the questions myself. Afterwards she gave me a nice compliment about how I understood the topic much better than I had claimed to when interviewing. I felt pretty damn good.

Until it occurred to me that I had been showboating in front of all of my new coworkers, any of whom could have answered the questions the same way if asked directly.

This is why my family doesn't want to watch Jeopardy with me anymore, isn't it?

(I also asked two excellent questions and said something that demonstrated that I'd done a lot of research on the agency before joining. Not regretting any of that.)

Big brains are just as sexy as big muscles.
In this regard, I'd say you were "flexing" rather than "showboating".
Your coworkers only wish they had the cerebral beef to compete...

Say, are you still pub quizzing?
