Save Me A Place
I truly have not meant to be incommunicado for so long--I figured the problems with crossposting would be more transient than they have been. Manual crossposting is really enough of a pain in the neck that I'm not going to blog at all if I have no better choice. But I'm confident that it'll be worked out before too long. I'll try to do at least one post a week until then.
In the meantime, what have I been up to?
*Recommended one friend for an open job in my department, successfully. Assuming he doesn't run away screaming within six months, that's a $2500 bonus for me. (Happy birthday, indeed.)
*Recommended another friend, buoyed by that success. Not sure if she's going to work out, but every interview helps.
*Got a new account at work, this one an even bigger brand. I might not keep it (my main one is going to go wild with new projects this coming spring), but it still goes on the resume.
*I absolutely adore Leopard except insofar as it's broken Growl notifications. At least Spanning Sync finally got its act together. (God, how I love being able to use iCal and GCal at the same time.)
*My mom loves her new used iMac so much she's getting a brand-new one that will put mine to shame. Dan already has. Other family members are following suit. I'd like to think it's my good influence, but it's really all Apple--they're seriously firing on all cylinders these days. I wonder if I can cajole the PTB into upgrading my machine at work?
*Not dating anyone in particular these days, though there are a few interesting candidates in the mix. It's just so danged hard to schedule meeting new people when I'm trying to spend as much time as possible with friends (and/or alone). I just planned a date for next Thursday for lack of a free night before then.
*Saw George Wendt at Therapy last night and Alan Tudyk on the street tonight. At least I think I did. Wendt is barely recognizable from his Cheers days (though Matt heard him speak and swore it was him), and Tudyk was wearing a knit cap that covered a lot of his head. So fucking cute though.
*Adam and I were walking down my block when he spotted an LP lying on the street: Elsa Lanchester Sings Bawdy Cockney Songs. I've since given it a good home. (My favorite track is probably "Linda and Her Londonderry Air.")
*I just got a wedding card from my ex-boss and his new wife, and they look so lovely. Not much else to say there, though I'm oh so tempted to scan the picture and put it up here.
*I don't like Barack Obama. But I don't like Hillary Clinton, either, and I don't like John Edwards much these days. And I hate Bill Richardson. Still, any of them will kick the ass of any Republican running--I feel almost sorry for the GOP, with five non-starters--and I'll vote for them gladly.

Alan Tudyk is adorable indeed.
I'm happy to hear what you're up to, handsome!
First off, glad to see you're back "on the air" Mike. Second, phew, it was no easy thing logging in. I had to log in though LiveJournal, which I only created an account on to comment on another person's site. Third, hate to be a cynic, but "any of them will kick the ass of any Republican running" sounds like 2000 AND 2004! I'm still in shock that Bush won re-election, so I'm not giving the Dems anything just for showing up. This freak Huckabee has all the signs of Dubya Redux.
Bloomberg '08?
True, we have to be careful no matter what, because elections are wild and unpredictable things. That said, the last couple of cycles the party was in pretty poor shape--first panicked into throwing away a legacy of success, then trying (with a poor candidate) to unseat a war president who hadn't yet alienated the entire political center.
We will have to work for a victory next year. But we've got a pretty big margin for error--big enough that we can win with any of the three candidates, whether the prevailing narrative ends up being Iraq or the economy. Meanwhile, the guy they hope will save them from disgrace is trying to explain why he forced the parole of a serial rapist. (Guess "law and order" is off the table for them.)
Sorry about the registration thing; I really can't do open comments anymore. Ask me why sometime.
