Re. Obama: I don't believe in "the politics of hope," or "crossing the aisle," or any of that horseshit.

But if other people do, and can be convinced to keep on keepin' on...well, I'll see you in November.

There really is more to Obama than just his oratory. In fact, he was long criticized for sounding too "professorial" and too "academic." The oratory, the rhetoric, which is an important function of a president, is just a part of what he offers.

Even leaving that aside: the history of the last couple of centuries of nation-building is in no small part the history of rhetoric. Words matter. Symbols matter. Process matters.
